Slow Family Travel in the Sunshine Coast
Lately, we’ve been craving slower travel — the kind that isn’t built around packed itineraries or ticking off attractions, but around connection, rest, and simply being somewhere together. Places that allow us to settle in, slow down, and experience a destination at a gentler pace as a family.
Our recent midweek winter stay at Glasshouse Mountains Ecolodge felt exactly like that.
Tucked beneath the peaks of the Glass House Mountains, the ecolodge instantly felt peaceful. Quiet mornings, fresh mountain air, and space to breathe — the kind of place where you naturally put your phone down and become more present.
We stayed in the Church Loft, one of the most unique stays on the property. The restored church is full of warmth and character, with beautiful timber details, soaring ceilings, soft natural light, and a cosy atmosphere that made it feel immediately comforting for our little family. It had that perfect balance of being memorable and special, while still feeling relaxed and welcoming enough to properly settle into.
Winter ended up being the perfect time for a slower escape here. The cooler weather invited slower mornings, warm drinks, early nights, and lingering a little longer in the quiet moments. Midweek was even better — peaceful, uncrowded, and calm in a way that’s becoming harder to find.
What we loved most was how naturally the property encourages you to slow down. There’s no pressure to constantly be doing something. Instead, the experience is found in the small things — wandering the gardens, listening to birds in the morning, watching the light shift through the trees, and simply enjoying uninterrupted time together.
That’s what slow family travel has really become for us lately. Choosing places that create space for connection instead of constant stimulation. Places where the accommodation itself becomes part of the experience.
Recently, Chris took over the property, continuing the next chapter of the ecolodge while preserving the warmth and charm that make it feel so special. There’s an authenticity to the space that feels incredibly grounding — thoughtful without feeling overdone, and deeply connected to the natural surroundings.
Glasshouse Mountains Ecolodge felt like a reminder that family travel doesn’t always have to be big adventures or busy schedules. Sometimes it’s simply finding somewhere beautiful, slowing right down, and letting everyone exhale a little.
And honestly, those are often the trips that stay with us the longest.
